Venice is a place that is mostly explored by water or on foot. The roads are more narrow footpaths and most of those are connected by stone stairs. However Venice is not fully explored unless you also visit the nearby places like Rome, Milan and Trevisa. The distance between Venice and Rome is about 540 km; the drive is beautiful and easy. Renting a car from Avis Car rental from the airport itself is a good thing to do, as the airfare is not always affordable, especially if two or more people are traveling.
Avis car rental is available at the Venice Airport and you can get your rental car from there to get started on your tour. The drive from Venice to Rome takes about five and a half hours if you move nonstop. However you should make a few stops in the middle to take a break, there also some excellent eateries en-route to Rome, which you could never discover if you took a flight.
Avis car rental has the option of taking a car with a GPS navigation system; it is highly recommended that you opt for that as the roads in Rome can be quite confusing even though Venice is easy to navigate on your own. The road though excellent can have a lot of traffic during weekends, with the help of a GPS navigation system, you can choose some optional routes like back roads that public buses will never use.
